Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome into the May Fun Stuff office, where summer is on the horizon and the plants are in full bloom. Being a flowering Pokemon that I am, I adore this shift in weather and atmosphere. Pleasant aromas drifting with the low breeze, the songs of birds streaming through the tree branches... What a wonderful time to be alive, isn't it?

I can be sentimental all day long, waxing poetics, but you have a newspaper to read! So continue on, dear reader, and enjoy all of the activities our writers have in store for you! I need to stay focused, anyway. A number of my colleagues in the theatre world are appearing in this issue, and I've got to go cheer them on. I'll see you next month for our summer spectacular! Take care everyone, and happy Issue 182!

Anagrams

Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)

Hello everyone, and welcome to the May edition of anagrams! I noticed this month that I've never touched on the Mario Golf series as an anagram theme before, so I thought I'd remedy that this month by creating a set based on the original Nintendo 64 game. If you can think of another theme that I've skipped over that you'd love to see, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, I'd love to have a go at incorporating it. Alright, there's a fair way to go to complete all of the anagrams here, so bunker down and aim for a hole in one!

How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!

1. LOVELY BOA

2. AIR BY A MOB

3. OATMEAL RIM

4. HOLDING SAD HAT

5. TORN SIGH

6. GUARDING ISLE

7. GREY DYES HUTS

8. GO IN FILM

9. INSECT HO

10. LAB ROASTS

Bonus anagram:

Word Search

Written by: Mustard Machine (talk)

I’ve been thinking a lot about Thomas & Friends lately, you know, the children's show about the trains. Quality show, especially back when they had models and one person voiced all the characters. So I decided this month's Word Search will be on the many characters in Thomas & Friends. (But only through the first like five seasons because that’s all I watched!) Words can be found vertically, horizontally, backwards, diagonally, and inside other words. As always, have fun stay safe.

Hiding Koopa

WANTED!

Hello, 'Shroom readers! Here again for a new round of Hiding Koopa!

I am back into Fire Emblem shenanigans! What I mean is that I am simply awaiting the release of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, which is roughly in a month from now. Very excited to dive in the Three Houses universe again with its charming characters (Dimitri <3), lore and stories! Really intrigued about Shez and Arval.

My five Koopa Troopas are currently hiding in an artwork from that game, while I am eagerly awaiting for it. Make sure to find them all!

Picross

Written by: Goombuigi (talk)

Greetings, everyone, and welcome back to Picross! The theme of this month's Picross is Mario Tennis Open. I didn't intend on having another sports-themed set of picrosses so soon, but usually I like to focus on games with 5 or 10 year anniversaries, and I found a lack of such games released in May. So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy these picrosses!

For new readers:

For new readers to this section, here's a short explanation about it: Every issue, you'll find two to four picross puzzles based on a certain theme, based on a Mario game, series, character, or item. If you have any ideas for themes, feel free to suggest them here. If you're new to picross, or need a refresher on the rules, here is a step-by-step walkthrough. You can also find many tutorials online. To play, download the picture and print it, or open it in a drawing program of your choice. Happy solving!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!

You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!

Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.

Challenge round (optional):

-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less

-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help

We're quite Luma light!

“We’ve got a kidnapping on our hands this time, gumshoe! Rosalina has reported that several of her little Lumas that live in the observatory are missing! This feels like small potatoes for a crime by Carmen, but we can’t rule out any options at this point. This would take a lot of resources to pull off since to steal them, one would have to travel all the way up to the observatory to nab them without being detected and then get away, so we may be dealing with a super criminal here- full of intelligence and riches! What could this person want with these defenseless creatures? What kind of monster are we dealing with here? Let’s get down to it, gumshoe, before we have a hostage crisis on our hands!”

The baby stars have reappeared again!

“Another case closed! We followed your leads, and it led us directly to a tour group! Yes, a tourist took a few Lumas, thinking that no one would miss them, but turned them over immediately when ACME agents showed up to the tour’s last stop. There’s no connection with Carmen here, so we can rest easy for now. Rosalina has sent you a small package full of star bits for your trouble, and we’ve delivered it to your desk. Perhaps you can make a wish on them to capture Carmen? Either way, nice job, gumshoe, you’ve worked your magic and incredible skills once again to save the day!”

Musical Quiz

Written by: WildWario (talk)

Hi, I'm WildWario, and this is Musical Quiz. This game is simple, just listen to the music and guess where it comes from. The answers can be found at the bottom of the list. Plants such as flowers and trees are the theme this time, so expect some garden and jungle music. Try your very best to get these questions right.

Trivia

By: Mustard Machine (talk)

Welcome back, readers, to another edition of Trivia by yours truly, the ONLY certified Trivia Master, Mustard Machine. Sorry about last month; I step out for five minutes to get a hot dog from the cart and suddenly I’m locked out of my cubicle. I finally chased that leech Pitohui out of here and look at this place, it’s a mess. Documents everywhere, I can’t find some of my important research material, it’s all such a hassle. I apologize in advance if my info isn’t up to its usual high standard, but did you know?

  1. That despite being in English Mario & Wario was only released in Japan?
  2. That Yoshi's Safari was the first game in the west to call Princess Toadstool Princess Peach?
  3. Contrary to popular belief, in Super Mario World Mario is not punching Yoshi to get him to spit out his tongue; rather, he is pointing forward?
  4. That despite the Microsoft buyout of Rare and appearing in Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, Tiptup still appears in Diddy Kong Racing DS, while Banjo and Conker were replaced?
  5. That Princess Toadstool's Castle Run was the first game to solely star Princess Peach?
  6. That Game & Wario started out as tech that was supposed to be preinstalled on the Wii U and wasn't originally a WarioWare game?
  7. That Wii Sports was originally going to feature Mario characters?
