A spider[1] is a type of pest in the Luigi's Mansion series. They can be found walking on the ground and along walls, or hanging from threads of silk, and can be defeated by sucking them in with the Poltergust or using the Strobulb. A gold spider[2] is a rare variant of spider that yields a greater amount of treasure when defeated.

History[edit]

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon[edit]

Spiders make their debut in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. In this game, when Luigi uses the Strobulb on a spider, it drops one coin, except during Confront the Source, in which spiders yield no coins, as they can respawn. Gold spiders can often be found after inspecting certain pieces of furniture. However, they tend to disappear if ignored for too long. If Luigi uses the Strobulb on a gold spider, it drops one Gold Bar. Spiders usually appear in groups of two to five, and gold spiders usually appear in groups of two to three after Luigi finds them. A large spider known as a spider queen is possessed by the Grouchy Possessor, serving as the boss of the Gloomy Manor.

Luigi's Mansion 3[edit]

Spiders and gold spiders reappear in Luigi's Mansion 3. Rather than being red, spiders in this game resemble black widows. Additionally, regular spiders drop multiple bills when defeated, and gold spiders drop Gold Bars as well as coins.
